We Have a Friend

Dear Friend,

So many people are hurting, and when it’s emotionally, that can be very hard. When a person goes through a lot of betrayal and rejection, it’s generally harder for them to receive healing than a person with a broken leg. To say the least, matters of the heart are painful.

It’s a good thing we have Jesus. If it wasn’t for the love of God, we wouldn’t survive, amen.

It doesn’t matter if it’s a friend, a husband, a wife who hurt you—the pain can consume you if you’re not careful. I really don’t know how people handle it without Jesus. Not only does He heal your broken heart, but He also becomes your best Friend.

In my lifetime, I got to the place where I didn’t trust anyone or anything. However, I can now say that I have friends whom I trust with my life. When people tell me they’re praying for me, I’m blessed. When someone sticks with you no matter how poorly others are treating you, you have a real friend. I’m so blessed to have a few of those kinds of friends.

One of my favorite Bible stories is about Jonathan and David. First Samuel 19:2 says: But Jonathan Saul’s son delighted much in David: and Jonathan told David, saying, Saul my father seeketh to kill thee: now therefore, I pray thee, take heed to thyself until the morning, and abide in a secret place, and hide thyself. It took a lot of love and courage for Jonathan to help David. It could have cost him his life. That’s a good friend.

My life would have been better much sooner had I let Jesus in my heart. Nevertheless, the good news is Jesus was and is patient, and He is in my heart now (I’m smiling).

I have a hard time believing that at fourteen years of age, I was going to slash my wrists. But my mom came back early that day so I didn’t do it. Then, when my son’s father ran out on me, I was devastated and cried in my sleep every night until my son was born. I was fifteen years old. It made my mom angry because, during the day, I never showed any emotion.

You see, when people are devastated, this definition describes how they can feel: “Severe and overwhelming shock or grief; shattered, shocked, stunned, dazed, dumbfounded, traumatized, crushed, distressed.” Satan loves it when people have been hurt like this.

There’s a saying that through difficult circumstances, a person can become bitter or better. Praise God for helping me to become better! My heart goes out to hurting people. If they only knew how much Jesus loves them; if they could only see how worthwhile they are.

Jesus will always be there for us. Isaiah 61:1 says: The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound. Jesus has done this for us, and He said the same in Luke 4:18: The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised.

Jesus never wanted us to be hurt, and He finally got that through to me. Satan came to steal, kill, and destroy—Jesus came to give us life. Galatians 5:22,23 says:

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,

Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

Jesus has set us free!! Glory to God.

In His love,
