Wise As Serpents and Harmless As Doves

Dear Friend,

The spiritual war is raging, and the devil is trying his best to defeat us. Peter warned us about the devil’s attacks in First Peter 5:8: Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.

Peter plainly states we are to be vigilant and that it is the devil doing the attacking, yet I see many people jumping into the lion’s mouth. Trust me when I tell you that the devil is good at what he does. He really does want to kill and destroy all of us.

The devil’s time is getting shorter and shorter—and he knows it. He will use fear, hatred, strife, rejections, anger, and sickness to open doors of destruction. Anything and everything he can use is sending chaos to the Body of Christ. Just look at all of the anger and rage over the upcoming election—it’s crazy!

When Jesus sent the disciples out, He said: Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves (Matthew 10:16).

We can’t forget who we are! Jesus paid too high a price for us. We can’t do things the way the world does because we need to be a light in all of this darkness.

Luke 10:18 says: And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven. I got so excited the first time I read this verse that I did what people call “the happy dance”! This scripture shows how much greater and more powerful Jesus is than the enemy.

Now look at what Jesus said and did in the next verse: Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you (Luke 10:19).

We need to believe Jesus. He said He already gave us power.

I think we also need to take very seriously what the Lord said about loving each other:

He that saith he is in the light, and hateth his brother, is in darkness even until now.

He that loveth his brother abideth in the light, and there is none occasion of stumbling in him.

But he that hateth his brother is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because that darkness hath blinded his eyes.

1 John 2:9-11

My heart is that we enter into the fullness of God’s love, being wise as serpents and harmless as doves. Satan has been defeated—let’s keep it that way.

In His love,
