Love Does Not Rejoice in Iniquity

Dear Friend,

The Lord has had me going over First Corinthians 13 a lot recently. This usually occurs when a chain of events has taken place in my life that can be quite trying. I’m sure everyone has experienced this at one time or another.

I have a hard time understanding how people who swear they love God can turn around and lie, cheat, and steal with absolutely no remorse, hurting people who trusted them. For a while now, I have had to deal with a person who has taken no responsibility for his actions and was actually very rude when asked to restore what he took from other people. I’ve been thinking about this a great deal because, when I became born again and received a new nature, I didn’t want to be the person I used to be.

That’s when the Lord encouraged me to reread First Corinthians 13. It has helped me grow in my compassion for this man. I don’t know what happened to him that caused him to be the way he is, but I do pray that he can be restored back to God. I know he is deceived, and I have spoken truth to him. I assured him that God loves him but can’t agree with what he’s doing.

First Corinthians 13:6,7 says:

Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;

Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth

all things.

I believe God will make things right in this situation and in the man’s heart. I will never agree with his wrongdoing, and I assured him I would never agree with it—to the point that he was angry with me for encouraging him to make amends for the wrongs he had done. This of course meant paying back thousands of dollars to people. Yet, it seems to be very difficult for some people to do right when it comes to money. None of us are perfect, but being born again, we should want to please our Lord Jesus. The price He paid for us merits that.

God wants us to grow up and be a light for Him, just as verse 11 says: When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man [or woman], I put away childish things.

This man has a little girl, and the legacy he’s leaving her is so sad. You see, the greatest gift we can give our children is to live in the love and light of our Lord Jesus Christ.

I know a lot of men, young and old, who have stepped up to the plate and are raising their children with godly values. I appreciate them so very much. The example they are, the encouragement they are to people who don’t know Jesus makes a big difference.

I am very fortunate that God has given my grandson Levi a godly papa named Darrin. He is an amazing example of God’s love.

God bless all of you wonderful, godly men. May the Lord encourage your hearts with love, wisdom, and strength. Have a blessed and wonderful Father’s Day this month!

Remember, love never fails.

In His love,

Donner Roberson
