Making a Difference

Dear Friend,

In my early years of ministry, I listened to many people’s ideas of what they thought “ministry” should be. Now I know it really depends on what a person’s calling is. I’ve seen ministers who thought they were going to become rich and famous. Sadly, it’s the people who suffer when a minister’s goal is to build his own kingdom and not God’s.

I was approached by a man years ago to start a healing room and then charge people who came one hundred dollars an hour to pray for them. I assured the man that Jesus never charged anyone for a healing, and I couldn’t charge anyone for wanting prayer. I explained to him that we were only vessels for God to flow through. We were not healing anyone—Jesus was. Amen.

If people start believing that they’re the ones with the power, they will lose sight of God and what He is doing. The Holy Spirit was sent to comfort, teach, and guide us, and we need to let Him do His job by keeping ourselves built up, praying in the Holy Spirit. Praying in tongues keeps us in a place of learning and desiring more of God. Psalm 51:10-13 says:

Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.

Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me.

Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.

Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee.

Amen. We cannot do this on our own. We cannot do anything without God. My brother Dave asked me one time what I wanted to accomplish in ministry. This is what I told him: “I just want to see people healed, delivered, and set free, and for them to know and experience the love of God.” Amen. My brother just smiled and answered, “That’s good.” Now I’m smiling.

We may not like what people do at times, but I try to always remember how much our Father loves them, and if we want to succeed in God, we need to pray for them. The Lord does expect us to follow in His footsteps, and He loved the hard cases. Jesus said in Luke 6:35: But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil. What an amazing God we serve! My prayer for us all is according to Ephesians 3:17: That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love. Amen.

In His love,

Donner Roberson
