Making a Difference for Our Children

Dear Friend,

We’re celebrating Mother’s Day this month, and I have to say I’m very blessed. My daughter Paula was my Mother’s Day gift when she was born forty-six years ago (I’m smiling). We celebrate our special days together. Not all of my children live close enough for us to do that. However, I’ve been blessed with three daughters and, now, two sons since Levi’s adoption is final.

It’s an awesome privilege to raise children, especially if you think of the impact you can make on their life when you teach them about Jesus. I love it when Levi, who is four years old, prays for me. I can see the difference that raising children in the Lord makes because when my older children were young, I wasn’t always serving God. But I pray for and thank God for them. Most of my children are serving God, and the rest will come.

When I was first born again, it was hard for me to understand how God the Father could love my children more than I did—but He does. His love for us is greater than anything I’ve ever known.

We need to radiate God’s love to our children and obey Colossians 3:21: Provoke not your children to anger, lest they be discouraged.

I’ve known people who have abused and verbally tormented their children, which is so very sad. As a child, I can remember being called “stupid,” “dummy,” and so on. I didn’t think I could do anything right. In the sixth grade, I made all D’s and F’s. But one of my teachers, a lady from Hawaii, took an interest in me and encouraged me. Before long, I wanted to do better and began making A’s and B’s.

What we as parents say has an impact on our children. I tell Levi all the time how smart and handsome I think he is. I want him to have the confidence I never had as a child.

I want all of you godly moms to know you are making a difference when teaching your child or children about Jesus, the Holy Spirit, and God the Father. The truth you teach them will never leave their hearts, and they will come back to what you’ve taught them. It is awesome!

Being a parent is the greatest job on the planet, and the Lord is so pleased with all of you godly moms, grandmas and spiritual moms. Here is one reason why: But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven (Matthew 19:14).

I melt every time Levi wraps his little arms around me and says, “I love you!” It’s the best feeling ever. It’s the same with all of my children when they express their love for me.

I think our Lord feels the same way when we tell Him how much we love Him. The best thing we can do is teach our children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren about Jesus. 3 John 1:4 says: I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.

Have a very blessed Mother’s Day, and enjoy everything God has for you.

In His love,

Donner Roberson
