Our Relationship With God Matters

Dear Friend,

I’ve found that as I’ve been searching the Bible for more of an understanding of God’s love, I’ve started to see what really matters in life. It isn’t “works”—it’s relationship that touches the heart of God.

I love my children, grandchildren, and my great grandson. I can’t see that my love for them will ever change. They don’t have to work for my love or act or perform a certain way to earn it, but when they tell me that they love me and just want to visit and spend time with me, that does absolutely melt my heart.

You see, I know how blessed I am. I just got to spend a week with my oldest daughter and my eleven-year-old granddaughter in Michigan. We had so much fun, and my grandson Levi loved the trip too. I have another daughter who lives here in Oklahoma. We try to get together once a week. My granddaughter who lives in Italy calls me on a regular basis, and when my oldest granddaughter comes home from work and says, “Hi, Granny-O. How was your day? I sure love you,” that melts my heart. Then there’s my little Levi who wraps his little arms around my neck and gives me lots of kisses (I’m smiling)—it doesn’t get any better than that. I have sons and daughters who love me, amen. Relationship is important.

I think our Heavenly Father loves it when we come and just tell Him how much we love and appreciate Him and want to spend time in His Presence. Jesus knew the heart of His Father, and the Holy Spirit is here to comfort and teach us how to have a good relationship with Him. In Luke 10:38-42, Mary the sister of Martha is an example of someone who learned to come and spend time with the Lord:

Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house.

And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus’ feet, and heard his word.

But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me.

And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things:

But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.

A good relationship with the Lord is something we need more in our lives than anything else. It will sustain us through everything the devil tries to hit us with. When we have that relationship, we have the confidence in God that He will move Heaven and earth on our behalf because He loves us, He is our Father, and He will take care of us.

I believe Martha loved Jesus too, but she was just too busy to get to know Him like her sister Mary.

I want to encourage you to spend time with Jesus. He wants you and you’re a very much loved child of God!

In His love,

Donner Roberson
