Dear Friend,
I’ve often wondered what would happen if for three days a person only spoke the positive, good things of God. I’m laughing because I know the devil would be totally devastated if he had nothing to hold on to in a person’s life. I like the definition of devastated—“destroy or ruin, wreck, ravage, demolish, level, flatten, shatter, shock, stun, daze, dumbfound, traumatize, crush, overwhelm, overcome, distress . . .” Hallelujah! That is what would happen to the devil if we chose to speak and believe God’s Word only.
Unfortunately, that’s not happening right now in the Body of Christ. I’m seeing more of what Paul spoke about in First Corinthians 3:1-3:
And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ.
I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able.
For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men?
Nearly two thousand years ago, the Corinthian believers were battling the same things we are now. The devil hasn’t changed his tactics. It seems like Christians can’t disagree with each other without getting angry even though the Bible says quite plainly in James 3:16: For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work. Think about it! Every evil work—that can cover a lot of territory.
James 4:11 goes on to say: Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge. Jesus said it this way to His disciples in John 13:34: A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.
I’m not by any means saying I agree with sin or false doctrine, because the only Hope and Freedom a person will ever have is Jesus, and Jesus is the Truth; however, I think people can disagree without venom, character assassinations, and showing a lack of respect for one another.
In Galatians 3:1, Paul said: O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you? Today I would say it this way: O foolish Christians, who has bewitched you that you would think our Lord Jesus Christ would ever agree to the bashing, the strife, and the hatred that is being displayed in the Body of Christ?
Have we forgotten that Jesus died for us all? We need to stop fighting with each other and start praying for the lost and the downtrodden. We need to pray against the works of the devil, pray that people will see the Truth, which is Jesus, and the Truth will make them free.
Paul said in Ephesians 5:9: For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth, and then in Galatians 5:22,23:
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
My prayer is that we can remember who we are in Christ, knowing that if we stay out of strife, we give God the freedom to work on behalf of a lost and dying world.
God bless you for your faith in Christ.
In His love,
Donner Roberson
